Assessment
Assessment
Assessment is an important part of teaching and learning as it gives students and educators the data necessary to determine if a student is successfully mastering the content they are being taught. At Oologah Upper Elementary, we assess our students on a regular basis using a variety of methods. We formatively assess our students many times throughout the year in all subjects (reading, math, language arts, science and social studies) using tests provided by our curriculum or developed by our teachers. We also assess our students three times each year (fall, winter and spring) using the NWEA benchmark assessments in reading and math. The NWEA assessments allow us to gauge each student’s growth throughout the year and compare them to other students in their same grade in our district and throughout the nation. Each spring, our students also undergo a summative assessment when they participate in the Oklahoma School Testing Program. Third and fourth graders are assessed in both reading and math, and fifth grade students are assessed in reading, math, writing, and science. The data provided by the OSTP gives a picture of how our students are performing in each tested subject as compared to their same grade peers across the state.
